DAT DUDE!

Posted by Greg Matsey on

I am loving this Reds team right now! Being a life-long fan and seeing how they rallied back last night to win gives me chills. I was listening to the game on 700 WLW, which I prefer most of the time. There’s something about hearing the play by play on radio that makes it more nostalgic for me.  When Nathaniel Lowe hit that two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win I about fell out of my chair. That’s the scenario you dream about as a kid and act out with your friends. I know I did. And, if McClain can hit like that then this team will be even more dangerous. We just need Abbott to get that ball up higher in the strike zone.

This weekend they are inducting one of my favorite players into the Reds Hall of Fame. Brandon Phillips. He’s signing a one-day contract today so he can officially retire as a Red. You could always tell BP loved playing by the permanent smile on his face. He was one of the best second basemen to ever play for the Cincinnati Reds with 4x gold gloves and many other notable stats by a Reds 2nd baseman. Joe Morgan might be #1, but BP is right there with him. Welcome home DAT DUDE!!

I was commissioned in 2011 to do a painting of Brandon Phillips. Through the years I have painted some of my other favorite players including, Pete Rose, Joey Votto, Barry Larkin, Elly De La Cruz - or as I like to call him, “De La Flash.” In 2013 I painted, GABP in the Moonlight” that can be found in a local collector's home here in Cincy.

Signed prints of my artwork can be purchased here on my website. You can use the code, “DATDUDE” for 20% off any selection at checkout. My next big outdoor art show will be Summerfair at Coney Island in t-minus 34 days. I am currently working on a historical landmark of Coney Island and look forward to debuting the painting at the show. See you there!
